We're overdue in getting to our February newsletter, but a lot has been going on around here. On Monday, February 6th, as the sun was rising, we headed over the Blue Ridge Mountains to the University of Virginia Out Patient Clinic in Charlottesville for Linda to have surgery on her torn up left shoulder. She's been battling shoulder problems for years but last fall the problem increased to the point of her not being able to continue any sort of active life without getting it fixed.

She was two hours in surgery and woke up thinking she was in Richmond, but the capable staff quickly disabused her of that notion and within a couple of hours we were on our way back home. We have been in recovery mode ever since and she is doing great, getting back into life more and more every day. She'll spend six weeks healing up in an immobilizer sling and then rehab kicks in. Robin is performing admirably as a nurse, keeping Linda on her pain meds schedule and taking care of her every want and need, and doing it with a smile on his face. Linda is in good spirits and, if things continue to go as well as they have this first week, we should be ready for what lies ahead of us in late April and May. Linda will once again be able to play in all the positions on the neck of her banjo, not to mention get it on and off over her head - pain free! Modern medicine, you've got to love it.

As we drove to C'ville on Monday we were thinking of the good folks at the Coopers Glen Music Festival in Kalamazoo, MI. We had been looking forward to playing there on February 4th but, when Linda's surgery was scheduled for two days later, we had to call them and tell them we couldn't be there. That went hard on us as cancelling a  gig is never good, but luckily our wonderful agent was able get our long time friends, Mollie O'Brien (with whom we used to sing in the  Hopeful Gospel Quartet) and Rich Moore to fill in for us. Mollie and  Rich are great so it was a win-win for the Coopers Glen folks. Now  we're just hoping they will give us the chance to make it up to them  in the future.

So - we'll be at home for a good, long period of time, something we're not all that used to. Being right handed, Linda can still put pen to paper and we're hoping to get some writing done. We have a folder full of songs hanging around the office in various states of disrepair that we've already begun to dig into. Writing songs, reading and listening to music are important to us but often get pushed out of the way by daily life. Now we'll have the time and we hope to put our stretch at home to good use.
