Robin and Linda Williams: Ground Hogs and Tours: 2009
Dear Friends,
Greetings from the sunny Shenandoah Valley where, if a
groundhog had stuck his head out yesterday, he would have seen his
shadow as it was 50 degrees and sunny. Here comes six more weeks
of winter. So far the groundhog is right. This morning it was 12
degrees with three inches snow on the ground. But we need winter
and we need moisture. So, we're not complaining.
It's hard to believe it's February. January just sped by. We had
a fun trip to the great Northwest. Luck was with us and flooded
interstates and avalanche-blocked mountain passes were opened just
in time for us to make all our gigs. We also had a memorable evening
at the Landmark Center in Richmond, VA with Garrison Keillor. It
was great fun playing in front of a sold out house there.
January was brightened for Robin by the arrival of his new Huss
and Dalton guitar. It's a model TOM-R with Brazilian rosewood back
and sides and red spruce top. It's a beautiful guitar and has an
absolutely amazing sound. Robin decided to buy it after breaking
a string on stage one night while we were playing some fiddle
tunes. He immediately picked up Linda's H & D TOM and finished the
tunes with her guitar. Linda turned to him and said, "Now, that's
what I want to hear when I'm playing banjo." So, in an effort to
maintain harmony in the house, Robin bought another guitar. Huss

January has been brightened for the both of us by the addition to
the household of Tess, a thirteen pound terrier hybrid canine. We
were humbled by the overwhelming outpouring of concern and sympathy
we received from so many of you at the news of the loss of our dog
Luke. We can't tell you how much we appreciated each and every card
and email. Tess is a two year old that we adopted from the SPCA
and she is a real heart-healer. She's as sweet as she can be but
she has a roaming soul that we are hoping to change. So far,
so good. She wants to please and is trying hard.
And January was brightened by the inauguration of our country's
44th president. It was amazing to see the happiness on so many
peoples' faces as we all witnessed a great moment in our country's
history. The expressions of hope were remarkable and have given
the two of us renewed faith in the collective will of all Americans to
do and be better.
We'll be spending this week getting ready for a trip to the
midwest. We've had a nice chunk of time off here in Virginia and we
feel renewed, recharged and raring to go! And since we start off the
tour near Nashville, we'll mention that out song "Maybelle's Guitar
and Monroe's Mandolin" made it onto "Bluegrass Unlimited" magazine's
list of 30 most played songs. Another first for Robin and Linda.
